Announcing The Sixteenth Annual
Interactive Audio Conference and BBQ

October 9-12, 2011, Ye Kendall Inn
Boerne, Texas

Project Bar-B-Q  is a conference to bring together a group of smart people (The Bar-B-Q Group), solidify their opinions, and put to good use the combined skills of those people for the good of the manufacturers, developers, and primarily the consumers of audio technology products.

Because of the dynamic nature of this industry, workgroup topics are chosen by a unique brainstorming session on the conference's first day.  This gives all present a chance to steer the direction of the powerful Bar-B-Q Group, and to simultaneously benefit from immediate feedback and input from the other remarkable attendees.  As in years past, the only official topic announced before the conference is, "Influencing Audio Hardware and Software Over The Next 5 Years."

2011 Update:

IMPORTANT: CHANGES FOR 2011

  • Change 1: For the first time ever, the conference will be running Sunday through Wednesday instead of our usual Thursday through Sunday.
  • Change 2: The airport servicing the event this year is the San Antonio, Texas, airport. Do not expect anyone to come up to Austin to get you if you make a mistake on this one. We will be too busy laughing our heads off.
  • Change 3: The venue this year is Ye Kendall Inn in Boerne (pronounced burn-ee), Texas.
  • Change 4: This is perhaps the most interesting change. We are condensing the standard BBQ content into two days, starting Sunday night and concluding on Tuesday at 1:00 PM. Report templates will be provided, and your workgroup reports delivered on Tuesday will be considered to be final, unless you would like to work on them after the event. No after-the-event action items will be required. Some attendees may choose to leave the conference on Tuesday afternoon. Those who stay until Wednesday will have extra time for informal discussions and will be allowed to participate in a new session on Tuesday afternoon, tentatively titled Ask The Giant Brain. This new session will allow attendees to tap into the group brain for help on any audio problem they care to discuss.

BBQ 2010 once again proved that the great minds of this industry, given the proper collaborative environment, can design a better world for the producers and consumers of audio technology. The camaraderie, altruism, and tireless effort at this conference are unparalleled.

As one attendee put it, "Everything from the high class of attendee, inspirational pep talks, convivial atmosphere, great food and drink and the carrot-and-stick facilitation, to the beautiful ranch and their ultra-personable staff are the right things to set up a magic experience, and so it happens."

For the 2011 conference, come well-rested. You will, as usual, spend from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM formally discussing and directing the future of audio on mobile devices, the web, consoles, computers, and any other technology platform. Your days will be filled with speaker sessions, roundtables, and breakout groups. Discussions will continue, informally, around dinner and well into the night.

We are looking forward to seeing you at this year's conference!

ORGANIZER'S NOTE:  PLEASE get your registration forms in early. For productivity's sake we limit the conference to a maximum of 50 attendees. If you know of someone who must be at this event, please pass this information on to him or her.
