EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

SUMMARY: The BBQ group this year was characterized by a seeming lack of confusion, and a straight-to-the-task, "let's do this thing" attitude.  I was impressed with the fact that all four groups' reports had direct relevance to our business, and their reports will very likely be immediately useful and inspiring to not only the community, but to any individuals or companies who choose to pay attention.

bullet|))) The Big Picture: (Section 4)

This group identified and addressed the conspicuously weak link in the broken system, proposing that were we to formalize the interface between the musician and the game audio programmer, the lions' share of the problems of creating interactive audio could be solved.  Steps were taken to move in that direction, including proposals of two IA-SIG working groups.

bullet |)))The Impact of Digital Distribution on the Various Constituencies Within the Music Industry: (Section 5)

This group examined sustainable business models for distributing music on the net.  By conceptualizing music as a service rather than a product, they were able to hit on several very promising ways of "selling more stuff" using new digital and internet-based technologies and structures.

bullet |))) Apostles of the Church of Appliantology: (Section 6)

In addition to some far-out, extreme ideas, this group came up with some appliance ideas and some very practical, practicable principles that would apply generally to the appliances of the future.  I think somebody's going to make money off of this.

bullet |))) The Sound Pressure Lobby: (Section 7)

This group enthusiastically proposed (and staffed!) an independent entity (the CAEG) to promote and award quality audio products.

This kind of productivity, in two days, is remarkable, even by BBQ standards.  This is a group that can take great pride in their achievements, and in the attention they gave to the people around them, the needs of their community, and the work that has gone on before them.  Thanks to the BBQ group for honoring us all with their attendance.
